Meet The Nashole, This Year’s Winner Of The Hot Wheels Legends Tour

The one-off 1957 Nash Metropolitan will now be transformed into a Hot Wheels model.

A customized 1957 Nash Metropolitan has been named the winner of the 2019 Hot Wheels Legends Tour.

Dubbed the “Nashole,” the car was built by Greg Salzillo and Dave Ford. They created it with the express purpose of being different from other customized cars and they certainly succeeded.

While most custom cars are immaculate, the Nashole has a distressed look has it has a ‘worn’ paint job, a dirty grille and steel wheels that are wrapped in old school bias ply tires.

Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been equipped with dice-shaped air cleaners, Edelbrock carburetors and a side-exiting exhaust. The engine produces 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) which is more than seven times the car’s original output of 40 hp (30 kW / 41 PS).

According to Mattel, the car won the competition for its “authenticity, originality and garage spirit.” This wasn’t an easy task as the Nashole had to beat out nearly 5,000 competitors from 20 stops on this year’s Legends Tour. The car also had to be judged by Hot Wheels designers and enthusiasts including Adam Carolla, Richard Rawlings, Jay Leno and MotorTrend editor-in-chief Ed Loh.

According to Hot Wheel’s vice president of design, Ted Wu, “We chose ‘The Nash’ as it represents the true garage spirit by bringing generations together and creating an impressive car that’s built, not bought.” He added, “You see it and instantly know it’s meant to be Hot Wheels with that color, the shape and the dice.”

As with last year’s Legends Tour winner, the Nashole will now be transformed into a 1:64 scale die-cast model that will be available for purchase in 2020.
