AC Schnitzer’s M5 Is 9 Seconds Quicker Than Stock M5 On The Green Hell

AC Schnitzer’s souped-up M5 has just become the world’s quickest M5 around the Nordschleife.

Ladies and gentlemen, AC Schnitzer is developing the world’s quickest F90 M5 and has the means to prove it.

Following the record lap set on the Sachsenring circuit, the German tuner has just announced that the M5 by AC Schnitzer is now the fastest M5 ever on the Nürburgring Nordschleife as well, before being available to the public.

To build up hype for the model’s forthcoming launch, the aftermarket company had endurance and touring car racing expert Jörg Müller squeeze all the performance from it on the Nordschleife. The result was a lap time of 7 minutes 29.50 seconds, making AC Schnitzer’s M5 quicker than the standard F90 M5 by 9 seconds.

The achievement also means the tuned M5 is faster than sports cars such as the Porsche 911 Carrera S, the Mercedes AMG GTS, and the BMW M4 GTS Coupé. However, it’s not the fastest four-door sedan around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with that accolade remaining with Jaguar’s XE SV Project 8 (7min21.23s). Last but not least, you should know the track was damp in some areas during the record lap, so AC Schnitzer’s M5 could have been even quicker on a dry day.

Before we leave you with the onboard footage of the record lap, let us remind you the key modifications that set AC Schnitzer’s M5 apart from the stock car. First of all, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has been tweaked to deliver 691 hp (700 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque — 99 hp and 74 lb-ft more than the standard M5.

The performance sedan also gains an optimized exhaust system with a silencer, carbon aerodynamic components designed to increase downforce, a KW V4 coilover suspension, and 21-inch lightweight wheels. The suspension is said to offer both compression and rebound stages as well as “infinitely variable height adjustment.”
